Dryer was taking three hours per load and I assumed it was finished. The duct behind it was packed solid with lint. Cleared, new thermostat, and now a load takes fifty minutes.
Called because of a burning smell and they treated it as urgent, which I appreciated. Element had lint packed against it. He cleaned the whole airway out and showed me the filter I had been missing.
Stacked set in a laundry cupboard, so the dryer had to come down off the washer. Two of them handled it, replaced the belt and rollers, and refitted the brackets properly.

Can someone look at it today?
Usually yes. Morning calls are almost always same day. Anything with a burning smell or an overheating cabinet is treated as urgent whenever you call — switch it off at the socket until we arrive.
Will I know the cost before any work starts?
Yes. The technician tests heat, airflow and the safety cut-outs first, then writes one price covering part, labour and callout. Decline at that point and there is nothing to pay if the dryer cannot be saved.
Why does my dryer take so long to dry a load?
Nearly always airflow rather than heat. A clogged filter, a crushed vent hose or a lint-packed duct makes the machine recycle its own moist air. Clearing it usually cuts cycle times by half.

Is a dryer that smells of burning dangerous?
